Most play centers on the White Mountain Recreation Complex, where a large outdoor setup and a dependable morning group make it easy to find pickleball in Ruidoso.

The village also has an indoor gym at Horton Complex for recreation programming and special use. Still, the outdoor courts are the everyday answer. Eight permanently marked courts, no playing fee, and a club gathering every morning give residents and travelers a clear place to start.

Main Courts and Indoor Backup

• White Mountain Recreation Complex, 685 Hull Road: This is the center of Ruidoso pickleball. Two outdoor tennis courts are marked to create eight pickleball courts, and the surfaces were renewed for the local club. Play is free. The complex is open seven days a week from dawn to dusk, with parking and restrooms nearby. The Ruidoso Pickleball Club plays daily from 9 a.m. to noon, so these courts support both planned groups and players arriving alone.
• Horton Complex Gymnasium, 134 Reese Drive: The village's multipurpose indoor gym accommodates pickleball along with basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, and community programs. It is useful for special sessions and weather protected play, but it does not carry the same published daily pickleball schedule as White Mountain. The gym can also host indoor sporting events through Ruidoso Parks and Recreation.

New to the Game?

New players should start at White Mountain Recreation Complex during the 9 a.m. to noon club session. That daily window provides experienced players, multiple courts, and enough activity to learn how local games rotate. It is a much easier introduction than arriving at an empty court with no partners.

Bring a paddle, outdoor balls, water, and court shoes with good lateral support. Ruidoso's elevation can make a long session feel harder than expected, even in cool weather, so begin with shorter games and take breaks. Players who want a private introduction before joining the morning group can use the Coaches section.

Morning Play and Local Events

Daily club play from 9 a.m. to noon is the foundation of the local schedule. It runs at White Mountain Recreation Complex and is the best recurring option for social games, competitive matchups, and meeting the Ruidoso Pickleball Club. With eight marked courts, the complex can handle a larger morning turnout than a typical neighborhood park.

The village permits reservations and tournament use at White Mountain for a fee, so special events can temporarily shape court availability. Ruidoso Parks and Recreation posts organized programs and tournament information on its event calendar. Horton Gym also enters the picture when indoor clinics or special programs are scheduled.

Playing on a Ruidoso Trip

If you are visiting alone, arrive at White Mountain Recreation Complex shortly before 9 a.m. The daily club session gives you the best chance of joining games immediately, and there is no court fee. It also leaves the afternoon open for hiking, shopping in Midtown, or time around Grindstone Lake.

Bring your own paddle and outdoor balls. Morning temperatures can change quickly in the mountains, so dress in light layers and expect stronger sun at elevation. Players traveling with three partners can use the free courts any time from dawn to dusk, but the 9 a.m. club window remains the strongest choice for anyone who wants the full local pickleball experience.
